My story starts with an all too common thought. Is this all there is? I was working as a project manager in the pharmaceutical industry, and my job didn’t particularly interest, challenge, or fulfill me. It was common to go an entire day without laughing. As the song goes I was, livin’ for the weekend.
It became painfully clear to me that I would not be happy in life if I stayed on the same path. I felt like my life was passing me by on a computer screen. I had the feeling that my soul was shriveling, as each day I took another step toward death (a bit melodramatic, but none-the-less true). I kept thinking, I’m miserable, but I’m making good money. It’s a tough economy, I should just be happy I have a job in the first place. I’ll just do this for a couple more years, and then do what I want. The golden handcuffs of salary and benefits were on tight.
Then, three significant things happened that shook me out of my trance. My company was acquired, someone I knew died of cancer, and I turned 25. I had been through a brutal acquisition in the recent past, and I didn’t have remotely enough energy to go through the process again. The death marked the fifth person I knew who died of cancer in their 50s. Then I turned 25. I couldn’t stop thinking that I could easily be halfway through my life. It was time to start LIVING.
So I quit my job, and decided to pursue my dream of opening my own business as a career consultant. I want to help other people escape boring jobs, and build the life they dream of. I am passionate about giving people the tools they need to get promoted, land a new job, or change industries all together. In the process, I have created my own ideal lifestyle, and as a result, I am much much happier.
