“It was such a relief to find someone who not only believes it’s possible to have a job that you’re excited to show up to — she knows how to get you there.”
When I contacted Rose, I was at the nadir of career searching: I had been in my own head for so long that every trail I went down brought me back to the same disgruntling conclusions, the most effacing being that my skills, experience, and interests were so desultory that I would be completely unemployable, forever.
Of course, this was ridiculous, and Rose was the first one to call it out. It’s kind of like this: Before I started working with Rose, it felt like I was putting together a puzzle, except the pieces didn’t really fit and I was jamming them together because they were all sky-colored or something; in our sessions, we broke up the ill-fitting segments, reassessed the pieces, and started building sections that worked for real. Rose is incredibly insightful, and she helped me tease apart some of the false conclusions I had concocted. I can be pretty wily, so I really appreciate that Rose was able to bring perspective, fresh ideas, and a reality check to my process.
I have to say though, that the most impressive part of my sessions with Rose was how results and action oriented they were. Before working with Rose, I was concerned that an attempt at career counseling would yield a bunch of fuzzy generalities and half-baked aphorisms. I was delighted to find that our sessions were extremely focused, and while the initial meetings cast a wide net, the later ones were unequivocal in addressing the details. My resume is tighter than it’s ever been, my cover letters received a full (and much needed) revamp, and my professional goals feel much better tuned to my personal perspective. Oh yeah, (and I know I’m just part of the Greek chorus on this one but) while we were working together, I was hired to work an incredible job in Antarctica. Just saying.
Finally, and maybe most importantly, working with Rose was a total pleasure, mostly because she’s fantastic, but enthusiastic, supportive, super smart don’t hurt either. She’s flexible with scheduling, generous with time, and totally on top of it. It was such a relief to find someone who not only believes it’s possible to have a job that you’re excited to show up to — she knows how to get you there.
